Yan’an spirit
Yan’an, situated in Northern Shanxi Province on the Loess Plateau, has come up in my dreams for thousands of times. I learned many things about her from books, movies and many other media. Her history and her scenery have impressed me deeply. Until today I can embrace her with my own hands and have a good look at her with my own eyes. When we were visitingYan’an I was excited to sense the personalities of the older revolutionary generation and understand the greatYan’an sprit.
As is known to all, Yan’an sprit is a precious wealth of our nation. Even in modern time it still plays an important role. Self-reliance, responsibility, hard work and flexibility of Yan’an sprit impressed me deeply. Most important, I learned a valuable life lesson: fail or success is up to you.
Firstly, we should realize that every person creates his or her own reality, yet so often people deny that they have the ability to gain the life they want. They overlook a fundamental truth, that is, it is not our external resources that determine our willingness to create a life according to our highest aspirations but self-reliance and the perseverance. So self-reliance has become our first step to our dreams.
Secondly, to take up the responsibility means we should admit our duties. Clearly we also should acknowledge our influence and role in circumstances in which we find ourselves. It also means we should answer for our behavior and fully accept any consequences done by ourselves’. As we all know that the older revolutionary generation always took the responsibility of saving Chinese people from the suffering they were trapped by the imperialism and feudalism. For instance, Premier Zhou ever said: study for our nation’s rise! He took up the responsibility of saving the whole nation and creating a new China as his own. What he said and what he did always inspire me to work hard and stride forwards. Clearly, to take responsibility will stimulate us forward and onward to our greater future.
When we begin to know our life is up to our self-reliance and responsibility, we are able to work hard for the desires and choices deep from our hearts. Hard work also can be defined as taking actions. Actions speak louder than words. As is known to us, in this world the things we want require our extra efforts. So to speak Norman Bethune, he had been known to many people before he came to China. But he gave up living comfortable life and worked wholeheartedly for Chinese people. He is a noble man, a selfless man and a great communist soldier.
Apart from hard working, we also need flexibility which is part of Yan’an sprit too. In the course of our lifetime, it is essential that we should learn to bend and flex around in every new circumstance, as rigidity deprives of the opportunity to see new possibilities. Modern time scientific technology will continue to advance and change, we must constantly learn to adapt to it and avoid being out. Flexibility allows us to be ready for whatever curve lies ahead of us instead of getting blind to it.
Yan’an is developing fast now. Yan’an spirit have been inherited by not only people of Yan’an but all of Chinese people and the sprit have inflated into our culture and blood. I believe in the near future China will revive again in the world.

To build up a internationally prestige military medical university with Yan’an spirit
---what I learned from visiting to Yan’an
Nobody in China will fail to notice a piton called Pagoda Mount and a beautiful rival called Yan River. Here in Yan’an, our sublime older generation revolutionaries wrote a great epic, and the Yan’an spirit was gave birth. Nowadays, I finally have the chance to pilgrimage this sacred place. It is this infertile land that carries that harrowing but great history. It is this infertile land that carries the bloom, blood and sweat of those older generation revolutionaries. Numbers of fateful deciding were brought out here; hundreds of famous essays were published here. The most important is that the Yan’an spirit, which has been kept for more than half century, was gestated from here. So I can not keep help asking myself: Which kind of spirit can help the CPC turn adversity into winner? Which kind of spirit can move generations after generations of socialistic constructors. Is that only some inane slogan as “Serving the people heart and soul, going deep into the realities of life to combine themselves with the masses, self-reliance and arduous work” and the rest? Certainly, the answer is no. It is numbers of touching and true affair. It is the promise that the older generation revolutionaries have been made by their lives.
Because of austere situation, the journalists had to move three times, however, they still took part in the Production Competition and done their own profession perfect. As to the announcer, they even too busy to have time for toothcomb. Even our sublime revolutionary leaders had to move from one places to another at times, and keep their life styles homely all the times. What is more is that Baiqiuen is who we should learn with, also, Zhangside serve people heart and soul at his station, he is plain but also great…
One jiff after another made us shed tears, one day after another our older generation revolutionaries consecrated themselves silently, one life after another slain for the great enterprise of socialist…
At present, we are in a peaceful period, our motherland is developing dramatically. However, the Yan’an spirit should not be forgotten. On the contrary, we should give it some new meanings, inherit and push forward the revolutionary spirit. For instant, it makes huge importance on the “Quality project” of the forth military medical university. As postgraduates of the forth military medical university, we should put the public needs into consideration when we chose our researching fields, we should go where needs us most, not only concentrate on the hot spots. When we do the researches, we should hold to scientific methods, combine theory to practice, go deep into the realities. We must not break away from the practice or make up experiment dates. We had better work hard to innovation with a spirit of self-reliant and arduous work. When the research condition is satisfying, we can make progresses; while when the research condition is somewhat disappointed, we should also make perfect.
Recalling the history is looking forward to the future. We should implement the scientific concept of development conscientiously, inherit and push forward the Yan’an spirit. We must strive arduously for building up a internationally prestige military medical university, strive arduously for building up a socialistically harmonious social!

Impressions After Visiting Yan’an
It’s my great honor to be a graduate of the Fourth Military Medical University and I was extremely excited to have this opportunity to visit Yan’an, one of the Chinese sacred revolutionary sites.
As is known to all, Yan’an is a revolutionary base of our party and military forces where hard-working and courageous people nurtured the Chinese revolution with their lives and blood. In Yan’an, the total rear of Chinese Anti-Japanese War, the majority of soldiers and civilians utilized their hands to launch the world-famous large-scale production movement in order to win the victory of revolution and laid the material foundation. Chairman Mao’s political views on Chinese revolution issues, the military issues, party-building issues and a series of representative theoretical works mostly were written in Yan’an. During this period, Yan’an spirit was born.
Yan’an spirit is composed of self-reliance, hard working, serving the people wholeheartedly, intergating theory with practice, seeking truth from facts. Yan’an spirit has played a significant role in Chinese revolution and construction in spiritual motivation. Yan’an spirit is not only the precious spiritual wealth of out pary and Chinese nation, but also one of the important weapons to support the CPC to gain the victory of Chinese revolution.
As a new graduate of the FMMU and a new soldier, I think that it is necessary to learn and carry forward Yan’an spirit forever. Through the education of Yan’an visiting, I understand how to become a qualified soldier, how to be an excellent dentist and how to satisfy with the need of patients. The answer is the spirit of self-reliance, hard working, serving people with soul and heart, integrating theory with practice, innovation, governing for the people and seeking truth from facts.
In modern times, with the rapid development of economic and society, all of us should learn and carry forward Yan’an spirit, because it is the same with the scientific concept of development and advancing with times. On the one hand, as a graduate of the FMMU, we should do our best to learn English, accomplish experiments, master clinical skills and technique, especially integrate medical theory with treatment. On the other hand, we should regard patients as our own family members and serve them wholeheartedly. Only in this way can people satisfy with our service and attitude. Furthermore, high quality strategy is the natural principle and the way of existence in conditions of severe market competition. The Yan’an spirit can promote and implement the development of high quality strategy. Only in this way can our school achieve the grant objective of constructing an international famous medical university.
Recalling the history is looking forward to the future. We should hold high the great banners of Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping theories, work hard to implement the important thought of “the Three Represents ” , inherit and push forward the revolutionary spirit of soldiers and civilians of the Yan’an period, keep up with the times, pursue truth and practicality, unite as one and work hard, and make new contributions to the realization of the grand objective of our school.

Choice
I’m very glad that I have the opportunity to come to visit Yan'an, which is one of Chinese world-famous revolutionary sites. During these days in Yan'an, the choices which these great men made in critical moment in the history impressed me most. For example, the four options that made by Dr. Bethune. We always faced with choices in life, including the important choice - may be related to our fate, and even the country's future, of course, there is also a common choice - just like that when we have lunch ,we choose to eat steamed bread or rice and other more similar small problem.
As the saying goes: "Life is not always satisfactory in the most time," whether a country or an individual, is all the same. It isn’t always peaceful . When the country facing a crisis moment which is often the moment that the historical figure show on the stage. A hero is known in the time of misfortune. These great men conform to the history and heed public’s opinion, and will be always loved by the people. Of course, there are some traitors and collaborators who would be remembered by the people as forever condemned objects. The moment they make their own choices, the result of the choices is destined..
In Fenghuang Hill, Pagoda Hill, Zaoyuan, Yangjialing and so on in Yan’an, revolutionary stories circulated everywhere that stirs the hearts of people, Yan’an spirit of Self-reliance, hard-working, integrating theory with practice, serving the people wholeheartedly inspire so many people. As a member of Communist Party, in the moment when I made a bow to these heroes in front of the martyrs’ cemetery, I felt so proud! All the body's blood seemed to flow in the chest, I felt refreshing. Along with the ups and downs of funeral music, my thoughts spreaded far away in the mountains……
Sometimes, for ordinary people like us, to be what kind of person is decided in a moment. When you walk down the street, watching an old beggar trembling and coming to you, perhaps you will give him one yuan. A small alms deed can show that you have benevolent thoughts and put it into action, it’s not a bad thing when you do a good deed every day. Although we can’t reach the realm of serving the people wholeheartedly as the great men, it is better to do than not.
The shortly four days of Yan'an revolutionary education come to an end, but the personal experience has been to motivate me to go further. Option is under the guidance of the spirit, it was said that life is composed by so many choices which could not be repeated. For me, having chosen to have graduate education, selected the Fourth Military Medical University and chosen as a soldier, it has been a part of my life, I have no regret about my choice, I am sure to do a good job in the future.

Recalling of Yan’an
How time flies! Three day’s journey feels just like a dream, but Yan’an spirit is so deeply impressed on my mind .In fact ,it is not just a journey,it is a lively class which tells us the history of Yan’an in the period of Chinese revolution .
We started our Yan’an journey in the morning on October 24，with excitement ，happiness，and the leaders’ expectation of our school. Through the window of the train, I saw the senery along the way. When we arrived the scared place of Chinese revolution ------Yan’an，it was 6：00，and the darkness has fallen. On our way to Yan’an university, I found the Yan’an city was a beautiful , prosperous and a modern city, and people’s faces were filled with happiness and pleasure. So I believe Yan’an will have a bright future.
In the subsequent three short days, we visited Qingliangshan, Pagoda Moun, Fenghuang mountain ,Yangjialing, Zaoyuan and the former residence of many famous people in Yan’an period，such as Maozedong,Zhouenlai,Zhude, and so on. With the help of our guider ,we have known that in Yan’an period, those older generation revolutionaries lived a simple life ,and published many famous works under the hard conditions, some of which are now used as compulsory courses by foreign country ,such as “Lun Chijiuzhan” written by Chairman Mao used as military course in Xidian Military School. I also learned that it was Yan,an spirit which played an very significant part in the revolution and construction in China, and it seemed like that I were living in their times , feeling the hard conditions during the anti-Japanese war and their strong will to win the revolution. Maybe someone will say that you just need to read more books if you want to learn more about Yan’an history, but I just think that getting to know Yan’an sprit is the real purpose for us .Only by visiting these places and listening to these stories at the right time and right place, can we understand the firm determination of their devoting themselves to the revolutionary movement，their spirit of self-reliance, hard work, serving the people wholeheartedly ，understand why the Yan’an sprit is so important for our country.
In these short days’ study, I think that older generation revolutionaries’ self-reliance, hard work are quite worth of learning , especiallyChairman Mao. In those hard days ,in order to overcome material difficulties ,he set an examples of himself , opened up a wasteland to rise crop ,and advocated the spirit of self-reliance and arduous work. However , we now live a much happier life than them，better conditions，no need to worry about our food ,and no wars, so I think we should study very hard to make contributions to our country .
As a soldier, serving the people wholeheartedly is my responsibility ，and we should develop the glorious tradition of Yan’an spirit, keep up the practice of plain living and hard struggle, devote ourselves to our country and serve for our countryman.
In the last day ,we visited the cemetery of 4.8 revolutionary martyrs, and expressed our heartfelt condolences to those revolutionary martyrs,l ike Yeting, Wangruofei, Zhangside and other martyrs. I have known that generalYeting had his own firm faith and strong will .What a pity that they gone in the air accident. After that ,we returned our school with reluctance.
On my way back to our school, the train rumbled on the subway，recalling of those places I saw ,I asked myself :what should be the real Yan’an spirit? why should we study Yan’an spirit? Dose it make any sense for us nowadays? A series of questions came into my mind.
As is known to all, Yan’an spirit is the spirit of self-reliance, hard work, serving the people wholeheartedly, integrating theory with practice, innovation and seeking truth from facts. In fact ,Yan’an spirit is also a valuable spiritual wealth of our nation even in these days. The scientific concept of development is the same with the Yan’an spirit and advancing with the times. Experience in Yan’an, as graduates we will be better in practice to carry forward and develop the Yan’an spirit and the scientific concept of development, and determined to take contribution in the area of medical research.

It’s my great honor to be a graduate of the forth military medical university. And I’m excited to come to visit Yan’an ,the sacred place of revolution, where we accept the education of Yan’an Spirit after registration. Yan’an is very fascinating at the beginning of the autumn. She greeted us like a benign grandmother. I acquired lots of things which is very useful for me during the sacred journey.
As is know to all, Yan’an is the sacred place of Chinese Revolution. She plays an very important role in the Chinese Revolution. And Yan’an Spirit is a kind of revolutionary spirit formed in the period of Yan’an when the CPC launched its political work. The Yan’an Spirit that is the spirit of serving the people wholeheartedly, self-reliance, hard work, innovation and seeking truth from facts and integrating theory with practice is the origin of theories of nationalities and policies for nationalities. It is the precious spiritual wealth of the CPC and one of important wapons to support the CPC to win Chinese Revolution.
In new period, we also should carry forward and develop the Yan’an Spirit. I been a soldier. So I think it’s very necessary to learn the Yan’an Spirit now. After the education of Yan’an Spirit, I know how our party acquired the victory of Chinese Revolution in Yan’an period, how to be a possible soldier and how to be an excellent doctor. It is the spirit of serving the people wholeheartedly that brings the power to us and leads us to acquire the victory of the revolution.
There is no doubt that people is the owner of the country. If a party want to win the trust of people, she must do everything for people. That’s why the CPC win the championship of people. The PLA belongs to the party and the people. So it is certain that the mission of the army and the soldiers is serving the people wholeheartedly too.
To be an officer especially a surgeon in future , we must learn Yan’an Spirit carefully, following the leadship of the party firmly, and serve the people wholeheartedly. Keeping the people in mind every time is necessary. And we should try our best to learn English hard, to accomplish the experiment carefully and to master clinical skill. We need practice the spirit of serving the people wholeheartedly in our daily life. Only in this way can we be better to serve the army and people and achieve the value of ourselves..
As a member of the forth military medical university, we should carry forward the Yan’an Spirit ,too. Our school has developped rapidly since the conduct of strategy of high quality. Strategy of high quality is the natural principle, is the way of existence in condition of sever market competition. The Yan’an Spirit can impel the developments of strategy of high quality. Only Carry Forward Yan’an Spirit can our school achieve the goal of constructing an international famous medical university more quickly.

Yan’an spirit will be remembered forever by posterity
Mentioning Yan’an,it reminds me of the caves,Baota Mountain,Yan River,Nanni Wan,the song naming Dong Fang Hong,the spirit of self-reliance and hard work,and so on.Along with the crunch of the train,we went through one and another tunnels.Finally we arrived at Yan’an in the evening.
How lofty the Baota mountain is!How clean the Yan River is!Yan’an likes the gental mother of all of the Chinese.It is not only because that Yan’an is one of the Chinese world-famous revolutionary sites,but also because of the Yan’an spirit.As is known to all,the Yan’an spirit is a valuable spirit and wealth of the Chinese nation.In the war times,it played an important role in the revolution. And in modern times, it also plays a huge role in the construction of China.It contains serving the people whole heartedly,integrating theory with practice,seeking truth from fact,self-reliance and hard work.Serving the people whole heartedly is the goal of every job,especially for military doctor.
Serving the people was firstly said by Mao Zedong on Zhang Side’s memorial service.Zhang is an ordinary person.He had worked as a worker and a coast guard,which were both common jobs.But he loved what he did.He was regarded as a subline person.The reason is that he worked in people’s interest.When he pushed his colleague out of the dangerous cave,he knew he would be in danger.His death is heavier than Tai Mountain.In the peace time,serving the people has new characters.But the foundation that we should be in the profit of people will not change forever.In 1982,when Zhang Hua, a student of the Forth Military Medical University ,rescued an old farmer in the cost of his life,there was a discussion about personal value.Though most of the people admired what he did,other people consider it differently.They claimed that it was worthless for an undergraduate costing his life to rescue an old farmer.He might have taken contribution in the professional area.But I personally believe that every person is equal.Whenever it is,people’s benefit is the most important.
In the construction of our country,we should carry out the Yan’an spirit.We should catch up with time.Say less,do more.We should take high responsibility of our job just as Zhang did. So that we will feel no regret of ourselves and our country.From helping Tibet to treating people suffered by flood,from SARS to earthquake of Wenchuan,from the frozen weather last year to H1N1 flu this year,once there is a disaster,there are military doctors.Serving the people will be born firmly in our mind forever.Military doctor,just as the name implied,is the combination of soldier and doctor.No matter who you are,you must be in people’s interest.As a doctor,we should treat the patient both by skill and compathy.Though I have been a millitary doctor just for a few days,I am preparing for devoting myself to my nation and people.I will try my best to cure patients and regard the patient’s pain as my pain.I believe that if I lead serving the people as my goal,I would be a useful person to the society.

Feelings and experiences in Yan'an
August 24, 2009, I am very honored to come to the sacred place of revolution - Yan'an. Although it is only a 4-day trip, in this trip we has not only realized the dream of many years ago, saw Baotashan, yanhe river, but most importantly is to have a deeper understanding of the spirit of Yan'an.
Yan'an spirit is the spirit of self-reliance and hard work. From the Yangjialing, Phoenix Mountains to the extension of parks, we can clearly feel that their conditions were difficult, such as, simple cave everywhere, the old wooden bed, wooden bench, the only vehicle removed from the spring of Zhu De to do seats. Though they live in this execrable condition, this is the time the living conditions of the top leaders of the central authorities. Inside the Xinhua News Agency memorial, the early Communists, through their ongoing study, overcoming the difficulties, successfully published many newspapers to promote the spirit of communism played a great role. The Communist Party is under such difficult conditions, developed and grew step by step, until the liberation of the whole of China. These things deeply shocked our hearts, so we must treasure the martyrs are with their lives and blood in exchange for the happier life.
Yan'an spirit is to pass the revolutionary spirit of serving the people wholeheartedly. From Bethune, Zhang Side to other numerous revolutionary martyrs. One is to pursue the communism international friends, the other is the ordinary soldiers, but they are using their own actions, and their own lives, to fully interpreted this spirit for us. As a medical worker, we should fully develop this spirit for patients to solve problems, cure diseases.
As a contemporary college students, we have enough reasons to be gratitude to community, to repay the motherland we should strive to inherit and carry forward this spirit of Yan'an, unfail in their mission to meet the challenges, in a practical work, outstanding performance practice good Yan'an spirit.

The memory of Yan’an
Arriving at the gate of the Fourth Military Mdical University at 11:00 this evening, the short span of four days to visit Yan'an is subject to the successful conclusion.
Four days was so short , but now lying in bed pondering over the past , it ever was so substantial, so it seemed like a couple of weeks. Every day we showed up in revolutionary sites of the old revolutionary base of Yan'an to learn by visiting, listening to 1-2 education classes recalling the revolutionary martyrs who did glorious deeds. Even without much concentration to listen, as long as you brought a sensitive heart, you would be influenced by what you constantly saw and heard. Coming to Yan'an, in addition to mourning for the martyrs, what I would think more important was the feeling of the predecessor’s spiritual culture which was bequeathed: serving the people wholeheartedly, seeking truth from facts and self-reliance and hard work. Yan'an Spirit , like the pagoda , is still standing on the mountains of pagoda quietly. Whether in the War of Resistance Against Japan, the liberation war, or after the founding of economic reconstruction, as well as the vigorous development of China's reform and the opening to the outside world it has left the memories which the people never and can not be devoid of. Yan'an Spirit has not only attracted the eyes of people across the country, brought hope to the Chinese, but also influenced generations of Chinese people. As well , with no exaggeration to say that it affects the whole world. Chairman Mao Resolutely implemented the style of seeking truth from facts in the Party Central Committee ,so that the Chinese revolution took quite less roundabout; Zhang Side served for the people selflessly. The older generation revolutionaries engaged in the production of self-reliance in the old revolutionary base areas of Nanniwan, took the spirit of struggle arduously, and lived through the most difficult revolution period...... As the same with Yan'an spirit, today's Yan'an presents with prosperousness everywhere. This is a piece of land which was dyed by the fathers’ blood. Now the spiritual legacy of our martyrs will be passed down from generation to generation on this land. Now the development of Yan’an has proved the greatness of Yan'an spirit . Looking at China as a whole again, the scientific development concept which is the same with the Yan’an spirit, is having a tremendous impact on our motherland and the people - China is now taking off!
As revolutionary military officers of the new era, we should carry forward the Yan'an spirit. Although being at the stage of world peace, I think that carrying forward the Yan’an spirit is becoming urgent at any time, no matter building our country or educating our young people! If one day we forget Yan'an, we eventually will not forget Yan'an spirit which once widespred in the beginning of the founding of our country and since. Because it has deeply embedded in our hearts, and already deeply branded the traces in motherland that can’t be vanished.
If there is a chance ,I will look forward to re-visiting Yan'an, pondering Yan’an spirit, like a baby far away from homeland to go home to see her mother .

Study the Yan’an spirit
In this cool autumn, we went to the well-known revolutionary sacred place ---Yan’an. Just as religious students went to listen to a saint’s lessen, we pay respect to some red revolutionary places---such as Fenghuangshan, Yangjialing, Zaoyuan and so on—where the CPC central committee and Mao Zedong had ever worked and lived. Experiencing this meaningful study, I authentically felt the true situation in that times. Hearing that the broadcast could be heard in Washington D.C. in America then, I was badly astonished. That was in Yan’an, in that strenuous times, people gave birth to the great Yan’an spirit. It was just under the guidance of the spirit that the CPC central committee lead brave Chinese people overcoming various difficulties to defeat the cruel Japanese aggressors and autocratic Kuomintang and get the success of the liberation war, and then found the new China ,we Chinese people changed their miserable fate and became their own master and lead happy lives at last. In fact, if there would not have had the great Yan’an spirit, there would not have had the new China, We Chinese people would still live in tragic lives. Jiang Zemin spoke highly of the Yan’an spirit, he pointed out that the great Yan’an spirit is our party’s fine tradition and valuable wealth, it also is a magic weapon to overcome obstacles and get success not only in the past but currently.
The essential content of Yan’an spirit is the self-reliance, hard work, serving the people whole heartedly, integrating theory with practice, innovation and seeking truth from facts. Yan’an spirit is a precious spiritual wealth of the Chinese nation, especially after the reform and opining-up. It still plays a significant role in the rapid economic developing of our country. In fact, if a person or a country can take possession of the spirit, all of them will get amazing accomplishment and can succeed at almost anything.
Although the conditions of our living condition had been largely improved, it is still necessary for us to learn Yan’an spirit seriously and carry forward it and practice the spirit in our everyday lives. On the one hand, we must cherish the precious study chance, make full use of our time, to find our shortcomings at all aspects, and then improve them gradually and perfect ourselves. Take myself as an example, there are many defects in my English, for example, I can’t speak English fluently, although I have studied it for many years，I feel really pity. So I decide to work hard to improve it. In the process, I will carry forward the Yan’an spirit, practice hard. On the other hand, in our daily lives, we must cultivate the consciousness of serves the people heart and soul as modern soldier.
