Overview

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was founded in 1947.  The Department is key discipline of Shaanxi Province, 211 key discipline, and discipline awarding master and philosophy doctor degree and post-doctoral working station. This department is one of the top four departments of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the country, and acts as the vice chair of Chinese Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Committee. The department is the unique training base of oral and maxillofacial surgeon in PLA, and famous all over military and the country. There are 8 professors and 11 associate professors in the department. Professor Mao Tianiu and Professor Liu Baolin are nationally known in the field.

Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment

The department is composed of 4 divisions, Oral Surgery, Head and Neck Tumor Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma and Orthognathic Surgery, and Facial Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery. The Department has an operating room, a Facial Plastic and Cosmetic Center, 120 sickbeds and 33 dental chairs. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a surgical specialty which involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the head and neck region. The scope includes removal of diseased or impacted teeth. Dental Implants to replace missing teeth and for more complex cases, reconstructing deficient bone to support the implants. Treatment of facial fractures and soft tissue injuries of the head and neck secondary to trauma. Diagnosis and treatment of benign or malignant cysts and tumors of the oral and maxillofacial region. Diagnosis and treatment of infections of the head and neck region to include infection of the teeth, the salivary glands, and the upper and lower jaw. Reconstruction and cosmetic surgery to correct facial bones deformities and facial soft tissue problems as a result of previous trauma, developmental, or secondary to the removal of head and neck pathology. Diagnosis and correction of Dentofacial Deformities (Bite) and other Developmental Defects.  In conjunction with the orthodontist, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon surgically realigns the upper and lower jaw into proper dental and facial relationships to improve function and facial appearance. Individuals with developmental defects, such as cleft lip and palate are also treated for improved function and appearance.

The Service Specialty

The Department provides service for treating oral and maxillofacial disease, and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment The Department stands at leading level in sequence treatment of cleft lip and palate, combination therapy of malignant head and neck tumor, treatment of maxillofacial trauma and facial bones fracture, correction of facial bones deformities with osteogenesis distraction, reconstruction of facial bone defect with RP. The Department is one of the appointed units for Project New Life supported by Mr. Li Jiacheng, and Project Tomorrow supported by Ministry of Civil Affair. The Department is at the national leading position in severe facial bone defect treatment field.

Mao Tianqiu 

 Professor, supervisor of PhD candidates, chief surgeon, member of the expert committee of Fourth Military Medical University, a well-known expert in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery who receives the State Council special allowance . Prof. Mao contributes himself in the teaching, scientific research and clinical practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for several decades with great scholastic achievements. He is sophisticated in the diagnosis and treatment of tumor, trauma in Oral-Maxillo-Facial area, as well as maxillofacial plastic surgery. He pioneered the cranio-facial surgery such as orbital hypertelorism in China. He was awarded 1 first prize and 2 second prizes of PLA Science & Technology development, 3 second prizes and 18 third prizes of PLA Medical Achievements. In recent years, he led excellent researches in the field of tissue engineering, having achieved important progress in bone and cartilage tissue engineering. Prof. Mao has instructed 25 PhD candidates and 16 Master candidates. He is the editorial board member of Journal of Practical Stomatology, Chinese Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Chinese Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery etc. He is the editor of many professional books and textbooks of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in China.

Liu Baolin

Liu Baolin, M., 25th April, 1935, Beijing, China. Bachelor degree, graduated at department of Stomatology, 4th Military Medical University, 1962. Professor, Chief Physician, supervisor of PhD candidates, Member of the Expert Group of the 4th Military Medical University, Member of International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (IAOMS). Consultant of Chinese Society of Oral ＆Maxillofacial Surgery, Association of Stomatology of PLA, Chinese Implantology Committee, and Association of Stomatology of Shaanxi Province. Vice chief member of Cranio-Maxillofacial Implantology Group, Branch of artificial internal organ, Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering. Evaluation expert of the Medical ＆ Health committee for National Science ＆ Technology Awards, and of the National Natural Science Foundation. Vice editor-in-chief of the China Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, editor of 11 journals including Chinese Journal of Stomatology. State Council special allowance award.

Liu Yanpu

 PhD, professor, supervisor of PhD candidates, chief surgeon, the chair of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Stomatology, Fourth Military Medical University. He is also the director of Section of Maxillofacial Trauma and. He is the Council member of Chinese Stomatology Association, the vice chairman of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Committee, the vice director of Maxillofacial Traumatology and Orthognathic Surgery, the member of standing committee of Restoration and Reconstruction Section of Shaanxi Rehabilitation Medicine Association, the member of Battle Injury Committee of PLA. Prof. Liu has received an advanced training in Basel University in Switzerland, and he is good at maxillary deformity plasty, facial contour plasty, internal fixation of jaw fracture, reconstruction of jaw defects etc. He is the editorial board committee member of more 10 professional journals and the editor of several books. Prof. Liu has published 85 scientific articles in related research field. He was awarded 1 second and 1 third prize of National Science and Technology Development, 6 second prize of provincial Science and Technology Development.

Lei Delin

 professor, supervisor of master candidates, chief surgeon, the director of Section of Head and Neck Surgery. He is the member of standing committee of Head and Neck Surgery of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, the member of standing committee of Chinese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the vice chairman of Section of Oncology in Chinese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the member of standing committee of Stomatology of PLA, and the member of Restoration and Reconstruction Committee of Shaanxi Rehabilitation Medicine Asssociation. He is good at the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck tumors. He is the editorial board member of Journal of Practical Stomatology and Chinese Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Prof. Lei was awarded the second and third prizes of National Science and Technology Development, the second and third prizes of PLA Science and Technology Development, the second prize of PLA Medical Achievements.

Feng Xinghua

professor, chief surgeon, supervisor of master candidates, the director of Section of Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery, the vice-group leader of the cleft lip and palate study group in Chinese Stomatology Association, the vice-group leader of the Chinese medical association medical aesthetics and cosmetology Branch, the committee member of Chinese Doctor Association Plastic and Aesthetic Branch, the member of standing committee of Shaanxi Province Medical Association Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetology Branch, the committee member of Shaanxi Province Stomatology association, associated director member of Xi'an Medical Association Plastic Branch. He is engaged in the basis and clinical research of the stomatological maxillofacial plasty, the repair and the reconstruction of the tumor wound, the sequence treatment of the congenital cleft lip and palate, and the face countenance cosmetology reshaping. He has published theses 120, participated in the  editing 18 books. He attained the second prize item 、the third prize two items of the entire armed forces advance in technology, the second prize item of the entire armed forces medical service achievement. He attained the French Lyons Clode Beorne university's headdress neck orthopedic surgery high-quality faculty certificate during studied abroad France. He went to France on behalf of China Medical Association Cosmetology Esthetics Branch to visit the inspection. He is the special expert of Modern Health care Newspaper、the foreign language editor of the Journal of Chinese Cosmetology Medicine、the editorial board member of Journal of Practical Stomatology, Acta of the Fourth Military Medical University. Until now, he has instructed 12 postgraduate students.

Professor Yu Shao-ming

He occupies Honorary President of Stomatological Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, member of experts group of Stomatological Branch of Chinese Hospital Management Association, Standing Committee member of Xi’an professional committee of Shann’xi Medical Association and expert of technique identifying to accidents in medical treatment of Shannxi and Xi’an. He also holds chief-editor of Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the editorial board member of Journal of Clinical Stomatology, Journal of Practical Stomatology, Chinese Journal of Geriatric Dentistry, Chinese Journal of Conservative Dentistry, Chinese Journal of Dental Research, Annals of Chinese Stomatology, Chinese Journal of Stomatological Information and the specially invited member of editorial board of Chinese Journal of Prosthodontics & Journal of Stomatology. He has dedicated his life into medical, education & research work of oral and maxillofacial surgery for thirty years, and is equipped with much clinical experience in diagnosis and treatment on tumor, malformation of the Oral Cavity and the complicated diseases of Alveolar Surgery. He has been responsible of the health work of senior official of central government and military commission as health experts for a long time and has achieved the special contribution award of military health work. He directed the educational reformation subject supported by Education Ministry and joined in several great subjects supported by both of country and military. He has achieved second prize of China Awards for Science and Technology, first prize of Military Awards for Science and Technology, second prize of Military Awards for medical achievements two times, second prize of Awards for Science and Technology of Shaanxi province two times and the third prize of military awards of education achievements. He has compiled seven professional books and over forty technical theses and was awarded as prominent teacher of Fourth Military Medical University.

HE Lisheng

He Lisheng (male, Han nationality) was born in Hebei province in 1958; Professor; Chief Physician, Tutor of MS of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Forth Military Medical University. He is the vice director of the department of traumatic and orthognathic surgery. He graduated from Forth Military Medical University in 1980 and got a Doctor degree in 1993. In 1991, he went to Japan for advanced study in Faculty of Dentistry of Osaka university as a visiting scholar. He is an expert in oral and maxillofacial traumatic and orthognathic surgery, functional rehabilitation of jaw defects and dental implantation. Now he is an executive director of Shaanxi Stomatological Association, a deputy head of Subdivision of Oral and Maxillofacial Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Chinese Stomatological Association, a deputy head of Subdivision of Craniofacial Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, a commission of Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma of Chinese Stomatological Association, an evaluation expert of National Natural Science Foundation of China and a referee of Chinese Journal of Stomatology. He has got 6 research programs sponsored by nation, province and PLA. By now, he has published more than 70 articles and has finished 1 academic publication as the chief editor and 9 academic publications as an editor. He got a second prize of National Science and Technology Achievement, a first and a second prize of Military Science and Technology Achievement and two second prizes of provincial Science and Technology Achievement in Shaanxi and Fujian respectively.

Hu Kaijin

PhD, Postdoctor, professor, chief surgeon, supervisor of master candidates, chairman of Department of Oral Surgery. He is the member of the TMJ and occlusion committee of the Chinese Stomatology Association, the editor of the Journal of Chinese Practical Medicine, and reviewer of Chinese Journal of Stomatology, and Journal of Practical Stomatology. He has won the National Natural Science Foundation, the Shaanxi Science and Technology Foundation, the Military Research Foundation, and the Hospital Teaching Foundation. He has published more than 100 papers in the core periodicals. He is the chief editor or associate editor of 12 books. He has won the First/Second/Third Prizes of PLA Science and Technology Development, Prizes of Shaanxi Province Science and Technology Development, Shaanxi Modern Teaching Technology Prize. He was selected as the Advanced Teachers, and Ten Outstanding Young Teachers of the university. He has been awarded the Third Merit of the Military. He is the expert in the diagnosis and treatment of the oral surgical diseases, and has carried out more 10 new businesses and techniques in the last 20 years.
