Department of Orthodontics

Operation range:

In our department, we carry out: early treatment for skeletal crossbite in the mixed dentition; orthodontic treatment for various types of dentofacial deformities in adolescents including irregular teeth arrangement, mandibular protrusion, maxillary protrusion, mandibular retrusion, deep overbite, large overjet, open bite and mandibular deviation; orthodontic treatment of dentofacial deformities post surgical repairing of cleft palate and lip; adult orthodontics including combined surgical and orthodontic treatment on severe maxillofacial skeletal deformities, orthodontic therapies for cases with periodontitis, temporomandibular joint disorder or sleep apnea syndrome and pre-restoration orthodontic treatment.

Clinical specialties:

We have been at the frontier of advent and development of most cutting-edge clinical techniques and a variety of international advanced treatment modalities can be carried out regularly in clinical activities, including modern straight-wire techniques such as MBT, self-ligating entities, Tip-edge plus; lingual bracket technique and bracketless invisible aligner technique; functional appliances, either removable (Twin block appliances) or fixed (Forsus and Herbst appliances); micro-implant anchorage technique. In addition, we have established perfect consultation system combined with other clinical departments under which a comprehensive treatment plan usually will be determined by a group of orthodontists, surgeons and periodontists. We always believe that a meticulous and comprehensive treatment planning should be an essential and integral part of the whole treatment course.

 

Ding Yin DDS, PhD

Dr. Yin Ding is Professor, Doctoral Tutor and Chair of the Department of Orthodontics Fourth Military Medical University School of Stomatology. He is also a Standing Committee Member of Chinese Orthodontic Society and a member of Stomatological Branch of Xi'an Medical Association. Dr. Ding is on the Editorial Board of Chinese Journal of Stomatology and Journal of Practical Stomatology. Dr. Ding’s focus is in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of dentofacial deformities in adolescents and adults including dental crowding, crossbite, craniofacial asymmetry, open bite, dentofacial deformities post surgical repairing of cleft palate and lip and malocclusion complicated by periodontal disease and temporomandibular disorders. His research interests include craniofacial growth and development, biology of tooth movement, orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning, orthodontic biomechanics and straight wire technique.

 

Duan Yin-Zhong DDS, PhD

Dr. Yinzhong Duan is Professor, Doctoral Tutor and Former Chair of the Department of Orthodontics at Fourth Military Medical University School of Stomatology. He is also Vice-President of Chinese Orthodontic Society and a member of Chinese Medical Association Shaanxi Branch. Dr. Duan is on the Editorial Board of Chinese Journal of Stomatology, Journal of Practical Stomatology and Chinese Journal of Orthodontics. Dr. Duan’s focus is in the diagnosis and treatment of severe dentofacial deformities including early treatment of skeletal malocclusions, adult orthodontics and orthognathic surgical intervention for severe skeletal discrepancies. His research interests include biology of tooth movement, functional orthopedic treatment, edgewise appliance therapy and mini-screw for anchorage.

Jin Zuolin DDS, PhD

Dr. Jin Zuolin is Associate Professor, Postgraduate Tutor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Orthodontics Fourth Military Medical University School of Stomatology. He received his BA in 1992, MD in 1999 and PhD in 2002 all from Fourth Military Medical University School of Stomatology.. He carried out postdoctoral research from 2002 to 2004 in West China Medical University. His area of research is focused on the biological characteristic of dental follicle cell and its effects on formation of periodontal tissue. Dr. Jin has published 16 related articles. He has treated thousands of patients, especially good at solving complex cases, such as class III malocclusion and TMD patients.

 

Feng Xue DDS, PhD

Dr. Feng Xue is Associate Professor, Postgraduate Tutor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Orthodontics Fourth Military Medical University School of Stomatology. She received her BA in 1994, her MD in 1997 and her PhD in 2000, all from Fourth Military Medical University School of Stomatology. Her area of research is focused on biomechanics of osteoblasts. Dr. Feng has published more than 20 related articles, of which 2 is SCI. She has treated thousands of patients, especially good at solving complex cases, such as class Ⅱ high angle, miniscrew anchorage, as well as adult patients.
