It was founded in 1962. Now it is one of the disciplines ratified to confer the doctoral degree and master’s degree. In 1992, it was appointed as the neurological center of PLA. As one of the well-known units of neurology, the national center of dyssomnias with integrated traditional and western medicine founded in 2002, is a modernized, specialized and standardized specialty center with medical service, teaching and scientific research integrated.
There are 80 beds in the department, of outpatient section, electroneurophysiology lab, multiplying channel sleep monitoring lab, neuropsychology detecting lab, neuroimmunity lab, cytologic examination lab of cerebrospinal fluid and neural rehabilitation station.
There are 4 professors, 5 associate professors and 3 lecturers, of whom 2 are post-doctors, 8 with doctoral degree, 3 with training experience in USA or Britain. They have gained great achievements in study of neuroimmunity, neurodegenerative diseases and neuropharmacology. So far over 30 students for doctoral or master’s degree have gained their degree. The department has 7 projects sponsored by NSFC, 2 PLA scientific and technological projects, 3 scientific and technological projects of Shaanxi province. It has won 2 second prizes of science and technology achievements awards of PLA, 1 second prize of science and technology achievement awards of Shaanxi.
