The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics was founded in 1955. As a comprehensive clinical discipline with medical service, teaching and scientific research integrated, it is one of the disciplines ratified to confer doctoral and master's degree, the center of birth control and healthy birth and sound care of PLA, reproductive medicine center of PLA and clinical research center of China healthy birth science association. The annual number of outpatients, operations and accouchement in this department amounts to over 60,000, 2,000 and 1,000 respectively. Experienced in remedy of severe diseases of gynaecology and obstetrics, maternal and infant care in perinatal period, assisted reproduction and operation and combined therapy of tumor in department of gynecology, medical care in the department has its own prominence and characteristics.
There are 8 professors and associate professors, 5 faculties with doctoral degree and 9 with master's degree, of whom, 8 have short-term training abroad. The department has gained 3 projects of NSFC, 1 national "863" subproject, 1 fund of National Ministry of Education, 1 fund of National Population and Family Planning Commission, 1 PLA "11.5"general project, 1 natural science fund of Shaanxi and 2 scientific and technological projects of Shaanxi. It has won 1 first prize of science and technology achievement of Shaanxi. 30 students for master's degree and 6 for doctoral degree have gained their degree in this department.
